Stay Calm and Carry On

Tips to lower your anxiety level during the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic:

1.     Educate yourself
Despite coronavirus being highly infectious, the mortality rate outside of China is 0.2% (compared to SARS which was about 10%.) Every year 60,000 people die of ordinary influenza and very few people outside of Wuhan province who have contracted coronavirus have died outside of the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions. Of the 45 people who’ve contracted coronavirus in Singapore, seven have already been discharged from hospital (with more headed home soon.)  So yes, be careful, wash your hands, up your hygiene, and stay home if you’re feeling unwell but you don’t have to cancel your life.

2. Avoid fear-mongers
Fear fuels fear.  Just as you try to minimize exposure to viruses, you also need to minimize exposure to people who fuel stress.

3.  Focus on what strengthens you, and stay as calm as possible

4. Double down on empowering rituals and practices
Exercise. Eat well. Get sleep. Meditate. Journal. Get out in nature. Prioritize your schedule. Do more of whatever activities recenter, recharge and reset your headspace.

5. Get on with your life as it encourages others to get on with theirs. Take sensible precautions, and then get on with your life.
Just as fear is contagious, so too is courage.

You are brave. You can do it. You have the courage.

keep calm and carry on

COVID-19 | Coronavirus | Exacta Garment Update

3/12/2020

Dear Clients,
Given the presence of COVID-19, we would like to update everyone on the steps the staff is taking to disinfect the common areas of the warehouse:
  • Staff is wiping down all door handles, light switches, countertops, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks with Clorox wipes and/or alcohol wipes a minimum of twice a day. If surfaces are dirty, they are being cleaned according to the CDC guidelines, using detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
  • The warehouse is being sprayed with Lysol
  • We have ordered hand sanitizers which should be delivered this week. All outside contractors, deliverymen, and clients will be instructed to use them.
Options to disinfect include:
  • Diluting bleach.
To make a bleach solution, mix:
    • 5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water, or
    • 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water
We follow manufacturer’s instructions for application and proper ventilation. Unexpired bleach is effective against coronaviruses when properly diluted.
  • Alcohol solutions (with at least 70% alcohol).

As more information becomes available, we will notify you. If you have concerns or questions, please feel free to contact Esther Haddad directly.

COVID-19 | Coronavirus | Managing your Mental and Physical Health

3/12/2020

In times of crisis, it is important to manage your Mental and Physical Health.

First, and most importantly, you need to take care of your own health. Stay hydrated, eat healthy foods, get sleep, and maintain, to the best of your ability, your own personal self-care practices. This is key to wellness.

We know that the news about this health emergency can feel overwhelming and stressful. It’s important to remain informed and aware, but also to manage your stress and anxiety. Here are a few tips and practices:

Try to avoid speculation and look up reputable sources on the outbreak.

  • Take breaks from your news consumption: With smartphone apps, push notifications, and 24/7 news coverage, there is a tremendous amount of information available at all times. It's ok to take breaks.
  • Be cognizant of your social media use: Social media can intensify the effects that you feel from news and information overload. The seemingly endless stream of information can make it difficult to shift your focus. Give yourself a mental break.
  • Practice good stress management: Consistent and sound stress management practices can be an easy and effective way to mitigate news anxiety. Be sure to stick with practices that work for you.

COVID-19 | Update in Exacta Garment

3/10/2020

We have ordered hand disinfectants to hand out to employees and clients; we should be receiving them shortly as they are sold out basically anywhere and everywhere you go to. Although we care deeply about our environment,  and used to clean with environmental friendly cleaning agents. we have had no option but to start using CDC recommended cleaning agents that are effective for disinfection and preventive measures. We have also ordered an industrial steam floor cleaner.
The 3 vending machines that have just  been installed are being thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before being filled with items.

As a provider of services to companies that manufacture or might want to manufacture in the United States, we are lucky in that our staff does not have the need to travel. That said we are also realistic: no matter how hard we have been working in implementing preventive measures, we cannot and do not ignore the fact that employees and/or clients might have been unknowingly had contact with people who travelled recently; they travel to and from work, which causes them to be close to people whom they both know and don't know. They are also in direct contact with members of their families, perhaps neighbours,, possibly with other people located in groceries (as an example), and might go to other small community gatherings. According to Health Authorities COVID-19 can spread out in a 15 feet radius if someone has the disease.

We have been cleaning more frequently., and have been stressing to our staff how now it is important more than ever to keep all areas cleaner, especially the Break Room (which is going to be renovated). Exacta Garment has always used disinfectants; even prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition to cleaning, we have always taken pest control very seriously, We have not had vermin issues for a long time. We concentrate all garbage (mostly edges of fabric that were cut and not used by people with disabilities) in one area, and we are working to move it further away from where it is located now.

COVID-19 Coronavirus | To Exacta Garment Clients

3/9/2020

We are reaching out both as a reassurance, and to inform you of the precautions Exacta Garment is taking to ensure the well-being of our employees and clients. Based on current guidance from the CDC, we want to assure you that the health and safety of our staff, clients, and community at-large is our utmost priority – now, and always.

Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we reiterate their sound advice: If you are not feeling well, or if you have been in contact with someone who is diagnosed with COVID-19, we ask that you do not come to Exacta Garment - please stay home and take care.

We have posted flyers (both in English and in Spanish) from the CDC to help our employees learn about and understand COVID-19. After serious discussions about whether we would be invading their privacy, we have decided that it is in the company's best interest to require clients to follow the same hygiene advice that our staff is required to; such as washing their hands more often than usual, for 20 seconds with soap and hot water (sing ‘happy birthday’ to themselves twice to make sure they do this for 20 seconds). They should do this whenever their get home or into work, blow their nose, sneeze or cough, eat or handle food. Cover their coughs and sneezes, preferably with tissue or your sleeve if tissue is not available. If they can’t wash their hands straightaway, they should use hand sanitiser and then wash them at the next opportunity, and avoid touching their face..

They should also use tissues if they sneeze and make sure they dispose of them quickly; and stay at home if they are feeling unwell.  To the extent possible, avoid touching high-touch surfaces in public places – elevator buttons, door handles, handrails, handshaking with people, etc. You can read more here: Preventing COVID-19 Spread in Communities.

We also encourage everyone to get information from the CDC; their FAQs page has important and helpful information.

In Memory Of My Late Daughter Mona Daniella

3/8/2020

Picture
This American flag (Betsy Ross) was drawn in first grade by my late daughter, Mona Daniella, who died suddenly and in a tragic way.
Mona Daniella loved America, and she was proud to be an American. She was proud of her grandfather's Purple Medal  (World War II), she was proud of how from a penniless peddler he had started a family business after the war, and had succeeded by working very hard. We are still a family owned company, (now a minority business woman owned.)
Mona Daniella believed that women should have the same opportunities as men.

At the time one of her friends had sent us this quote:

"When a child loses their parents they become an orphan, when a woman loses her husband she becomes a widow, when a husband loses his wife, he becomes a widower but there is no word for when parents lose a child.
Probably because there is no word to explain the amount of pain for the parents to go through after the loss.
That's how awful the loss is."
- Jay Neugeboren

So true. She is missed every second of the day. This is my first post since Mona Daniella's untimely death; and it is in her memory.
